“It’s with great joy and excitement I'm on board with Healthy Bones Australia. It is an exciting campaign that aims to PREVENT osteoporosis. With longer life expectancy it is important for us to take better care of our health and wellbeing. Through fun initiatives and awareness, Healthy Bones Australia is a cause that I’m looking forward to be involved with.”
As a dual Olympian silver medallist, Elka Whalan saw tremendous success as a swimmer. She set Australian and Commonwealth records, and in 2003 at the World Championships, she became the only woman to win gold in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m races.
Since retiring from swimming in 2006, she has made a successful transition to a media career. She has written for publications such as The Sun Herald, Marie Claire, and Women’s Health. She can also been seen regularly as one of Kochie’s Angels on Sunrise, as a jury member on The Morning Show and as host of Live Well on Channel 7.
Elka is married to four-time Olympian water polo player Thomas Whalan, and they have three young children, which makes her even more passionate about ensuring that families understand just how crucial bone health is.
Elka’s positive attitude and enthusiasm are infectious, which makes her an excellent role model to show Australians just how simple and fun taking care of your bones can be.
